Revitalized Medvedev Secures Maiden Title in 882 Days
Nineteen of Medvedev's 21 victories have been earned on hard courts
A resurgent the Russian player secured his first championship for nearly 30 months with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the competition title decider.
The Russian, a former number one, has experienced a challenging year, winning just one match at the Grand Slams and undergoing a meltdown at the New York tournament.
His inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his serve in specific - resulted in him exiting of the elite rankings and eventually parting ways with former mentor his previous coach.
Now training with his coach and Goetzke, he has consistently progressed in the recent weeks - peaking in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.
This marks Medvedev's first title since the Rome competition and first on a hardcourt since that period of the previous year.
The win also means he has won twenty-one victories at 21 distinct competitions.
"It's the first time I have attended a competition with my both daughters at once, so to secure a championship is particularly special," stated world number 14 Medvedev.
"This title is in tribute of my child Victoria, because the first title I got when my child her name was delivered was for her."
The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his past six finals, including in that event previously this season.
Medvedev's defensive strategy and recurring reactions on court had led observers to question if his ability to play at the elite level was concluded.
But the player has made changes in recent weeks, striving to advance forward and compete positively, supported by an better service.
The champion came back from a disadvantage in the first set against the difficult opponent, winning 4 of the final five exchanges to take the lead.
The pair swapped service breaks in the middle set before the Frenchman, striving for his initial ATP Tour championship, seized the initiative to create a final set.
He rescued 4 early-game opportunities in a competitive third set before the champion broke to that score to secure the win.
Appropriately, Medvedev earned the title with a shot at the net, with his opponent incapable to manage a volley after a lengthy match.
